![]() With the subframe out of the car there are quite a few additional items that can or should be replaced. Access to the top of the floor in the rear trunk is also required. The E46 Rear Subframe/Chassis Reinforcement Kit consists of 4 main subframe mounting point reinforcements, spacers to realign the cross member, hardware, and plates to cover the access panels in the trunk. It is also recommended, but not required, to remove the gas tank. This immaculate (I cannot stress how near perfection this cars condition is) E46 M3 Convertible has just 38,000 miles from new and is a 2003 production mode. This kit applies to all BMW E46 cars, including the M3. Installation requires the removal of the exhaust, rear suspension, subframe, and differential. We recommend EVERY E46 on the road gets rear reinforcement, even if its “just” a street car! While You’re In There… BMW even has an official fix for non-damaged cars. A typical subframe reinforcement will cost around 1,500 and if the entire floor needs to be replaced, you’re looking at somewhere around 4,000-5,000. ![]() Unlike the E36 M3, the E46 models did not receive sheetmetal reinforcements from the factory and subframe and floor failures continued to be a problem well into the E46 production. Rear subframe and floor failures are extremely common on the E46 models.
